  1. Comedy Happenings & Other Stuff

    Sunday, July 29, 2018

Well, guess who wasted a second Friday off from work waiting on a plumber who didn’t show?

Frustrating.  But not my biggest problem in life.  However, since the leak
in my bathroom has been going on for over two weeks, when I enter the apartment, it smells musty.  I do hope the plumber and other workers get here before the bathroom ceiling ends up on the bathroom floor.

Honestly, I can’t help thinking of the atrocities our government is doing to innocent little children.  I’m a mother.  I was a child.  I grew up often being made aware of what was done to innocent people in the Holocaust.  It is all too horrific.

So by comparison, my bathroom leak is fixable (as long as the fixers get
    here).

On a positive note, the Divorced Divas of Comedy will be doing another
show at the Cornelia Street CafĂ© on Sunday, September 30th at 6pm.  If you like to plan ahead, mark your calendars.  By the way, if you aren't connected with She So Funny or Divorced Divas of Comedy on Facebook, go connect:  https://www.facebook.com/SheSoFunny/    and  https://www.facebook.com/threedivorceddivas/

    Thank you.

Recently, I performed at a cable TV show taping at MNN.  It was Pepino
Clemenza Provolone’s show.  I had never met him and his group of comics before.  It was fun.  Pepino is warm, welcoming, and quite a character.  All of the other comics were younger than me, but, inside, I don’t feel old.  I had a roomful of comics and one regular person laughing hard.  I enjoyed the spirit of the evening.  I’m looking forward to seeing the edited final product.

The next comedy show I’m in is Aaron Smith’s Funny Underground Comedy (F.U.C.) show on Friday, August 31st at 7pm at Broadway Comedy Club.

Of course, I’ll let you know if more gets added or any changes occur.

A number of people, who have made my place of work a humane setting and serviced students so beautifully, are leaving.  I am sooooo bummed out.

I really welcome something great to happen.

    (Love to CGM)

  2. The return of the Divorced Divas of Comedy show was a hit!  I am proud, yes I am.  I was also thrilled that the audience included four poetry friends, four co-workers, and three other friends of mine.  Heart-warming.  Others had guests as well.  Plus the owner sat and watched the whole show.  Each comic had the room going.

Lucky for me, my friends took photos.  Here we were in action.  I informed the room of my penis-free zone.

Debbie shared how to prepare for a third husband search.

Ken Watter, funniest tax accountant in DC, has a plan for his retirement that involves some non-traditional ideas.

Missy's family misunderstood the purpose of her facial scrubber.  Rhonda once wanted to be a nun until a Sister at St. Virgin in the Bushes changed her course.

All mixed together was a hilarious time.  In the photo below, Robin Hirsch, owner of the Cornelia Street Cafe, cozies up to the comics and lets everyone know how much he enjoyed us.

Those of you who couldn’t get to the show on 7/22, there will hopefully be
future opportunities there.  I’d also like to bring the Divorced Divas of Comedy show to some place in the Bronx.  That’s my home borough.  I really should find venues in every borough for this show.

The “Divas” rotate to some degree.  One of the ones in the 7/22 show is
from Delaware, and another is from Washington, DC.  They traveled to NYC to do the show which was a treat.

There’s a lot of stress involved in producing, however, there’s much
gratification as well.  I decide the line-up.  I love my taste.  I can easily invite friends and co-workers, confident they will enjoy the show.  Plus the comics typically walk away saying, "It really was a good show."

A few nights later, I was in someone else's show.  One big difference is my focus is mainly on my own performance, what to wear, and getting there on time.  Everything else is someone else's stress.  I enjoyed performing under a lighter load.  There's good stuff about both situations.

Behind the scenes:  At my job, there is a funding shortage.  Most people's security is not secure.  The uncertainty of life.  It is unnerving for sure.

I am expecting the plumber tomorrow morning to deal with a leak that has been going on for a while.  I have tomorrow off from work.

See, behind the scenes, life ain't so glamorous.  Not until someone comes along, sees me doing my thing, and says, "I want that woman in my TV show!" (or something equivalent).

With that change in finances, I'd be able to make a donation to the program I currently work for, leave, always have toilet paper, tissues, and towel paper at the same time, pay all debts, help my son, help others, have a real choice of doctors, and move to an easier place to live.  So fun to fantasize.  And my fantasy didn't even get to luxuries.  Not having to worry about survival is a luxury.

  3.

Hi lovely people.  I hope you made or will make your reservations for the Divorced Divas of Comedy show on Sunday 7/22 at 6pm.  212 989-9319

I created, produce, and perform in that show.  I get to book the comics, and I love my taste.  I guarantee you a very good time.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Only 10 bucks cover and another 10 to buy something.  Good food and drink.  I’d appreciate your support.  Laughter guaranteed.

Bring someone (co-worker, date, sibling, friend, neighbor, a mom or dad
from your child’s school) who needs laughter.

If you’d like to be part of a live studio audience, I’m performing at
MNN Studio on West 59 Street in Pepino Clemenza Provolone’s show on Wednesday, July 25th.  Showtime is 9:30pm.  The show is free.  The studio is always very air-conditioned.

Friday, August 31st at 7pm, I am in Aaron Smith’s F.U.C. show at Broadway Comedy Club.

    More to come …

So update your calendars, folks.  Let me tickle you, make you laugh, and have you gasping for air.

  4. After a hiatus, I am thrilled to announce the return of my Divorced Divas of Comedy Show.  We will be performing at the Cornelia Street CafĂ© on Cornelia Street near West 3rd in the Village, NYC on Sunday, July 22nd at 6pm.

The line–up will have your laugh muscles workin’.

I have been in many readings at the Cornelia Street CafĂ© – poetry, prose,
and staged readings of plays.  This is the first time I’ll be putting on a show and doing stand-up comedy at Cornelia.  I’m looking forward to it.  Some of my favorites are performing.

It’s only a $10 cover and $10 minimum.  The place serves delicious food.
There’s a bar as well.  It’s a happening spot.  Take someone out for dinner and laughter.  Or drinks and laughter.  The laughter is guaranteed.  Reservations advised:  212 989-9319.

I had taken a break for several reasons from producing.  But lately, I felt
reminded of why I began doing it to begin with.  Then a woman I know from the poetry, prose, and cabaret worlds connected me to the person at Cornelia Street CafĂ©.  And on and on it goes.  I love when life works that way.  Come celebrate with me.  Bring friends.  Let’s laugh.

  5. A cockroach was crawling on my papers on my computer desk.  I’ll spare all an illustration.  It seemed to be the only one, but I knew I had to make the surface less roach-friendly.  There’s no food or water on the desk, but there was way too much paper (paid bills, notes, cards, scratch-off tickets, ATM receipts, starts of poems, comedy notes, phone numbers, junk mail, etc., etc.).  So I proceeded to go through a lot of it.  I even found a dollar.  I filled two bags of torn up clutter and brought them out to the garbage.  As much as I resented the cockroach, it caused me to clean up some.  Then today, I saw the roach again.  My ex-husband used to kill the bugs.  We had agreed that was one of the things men do.

Living with a man seems a heavy price to get rid of cockroaches.  I got a
tissue and called up my courage.  Got it, and threw it in the garbage.  If it comes crawling out, I’ll know I didn’t do the man thing well enough.  I should have brought it to the toilet bowl but couldn’t stand holding the tissue that many seconds.

I wish I could say that my computer desk is all clear now.  It isn’t.  It’s improved though.

I had a mini-vacation at a friend’s house in New Jersey.  Half of the time
included a 3rd friend.  Time in the pool, beside the pool, playing Scrabble, watching birds and chipmunks, doing creative writing exercises, and at a poetry reading where we participated in the open mic portion of the evening.  We also laughed ourselves out of breath when we played Mad Libs.  We 3 know each other from a Manhattan poetry workshop.  Here we are goofing around:

    Mindy, Patrick, Barbara

Things at my job are changing.  Some of it is definitely not for the
better.  My future there feels like a question mark.  Only in hindsight do we know if something was a misfortune or a disguised blessing.  I’m not at hindsight yet.

I am super proud and a dash hopeful when someone with life, energy,
youth, humanity, intelligence, and integrity from my Bronx gets elected.  Additionally, she is beautiful, which is what happens when all of those qualities shines through one’s eyes, skin, and smile.  Go, girl, go!!!

Mark your calendars for 8/31 at 7pm if you want to catch my hilarity on
stage at Broadway Comedy Club in Aaron Smith’s F.U.C. show.  More details as they become available.
